Over 100 years of History – Power Ranch Real Estate
Would you believe that the Power Ranch real estate has been around for more than 100 years? This community has a rich history reaching back to 1892, when James Oliver Power settled in Lehi, a community new present-day Gilbert. In the early 1900’s, James and his wife, Sarah, began their 2,000-acre Power Ranch homestead living in a tiny frame bungalow. They raised their 13 kids in their five-room adobe home (can you imagine the smell?). During this time, cotton was THE industry to be in. According to the community’s website, “James Power was known throughout the area as one of the best producers of pima cotton, named after Pima County, Arizona. When the Depression hit in 1929, the banks closed and everyone was broke. Power Ranches couldn’t sell its cotton, so it diversified into vegetables, all kinds, and hired a Japanese supervisor and Filipino crew from California. Nevertheless, the ranch operation survived and was prospering again by 1934”. The Orchard Neighborhood

The Timbers Neighborhood

Across Queen Creek Road, you will also see the neighborhood, Trilogy, which is a separate community owned by Power Ranch. Trilogy is an active adult community that also features a beautiful golf course with a stunning view of the San Tan Mountains. - Down Town Gilbert (20 min drive): This place is the HUB of Gilbert and is constantly adding new restaurants and shops. It added 4 new eateries this year alone! You can also see a show at Hale Theater, a 350-seat theater-in-the-round that shows a myriad of different plays for all ages. The town of Gilbert is putting a lot of effort into this historic center, and you’ll find almost any kind of food to fit your craving.
- San Tan Village Shopping Center (15 min drive): The San Tan Village mall is the perfect combination of relaxation and style. You’ll find the major department stores, along with family owned stores and, on some weekends, a big farmers market with great pop-up shops. There are also various restaurants to choose from, ranging from Chipotle to Cantina Laredo. Once you’re done shopping & eating, catch a movie at Harkins Theater.
- The Riparian Preserve (15 min drive): If you’re in the mood to take a nice stroll around Arizona’s finest foliage and maybe see a few bunnies hopping around, you’ll want to check out the Riparian Preserve. This is also a great place to bird watch, and the paths are lined with hints to see certain birds in that area. The Riparian is the perfect place to watch Arizona’s famous sunsets, especially as it sets over the lake. You can also visit the Southeast Regional Library while you’re over there and grab some new books (or DVDs, we don’t judge).
Now we can’t just talk about food and fun places, right? There are other parts of life that must be addressed and are important when choosing the right community for your family, schools being one of them.
